Our Story: From Starting Over to Creating Something Meaningful

A New Chapter in a New Country

In 2021, we made a bold decision. We sold the two e-commerce businesses we had built and left behind the life we knew to start fresh in the UK. It was exciting, uncertain, and full of possibility. Like many people who take a leap of faith, we hoped we were moving toward something better — something that felt more aligned with who we truly are.

Searching for Purpose

Over the next few years, we tried many things. We worked for e-commerce companies, launched new business ideas, and built a couple of websites in search of something that felt right. But with every attempt, something always seemed to fade. The passion that once drove us would slowly disappear, and we’d find ourselves wondering whether we were chasing the wrong dreams.

At some point, we found ourselves stuck in the middle of it all questioning our choices, doubting whether moving here was the right decision. It felt like being lost without a compass.

The Moment Everything Changed

Then, in mid-2024, we bought our first 3D printer.
At the time, we weren’t thinking of starting another business. We simply wanted to make things again, to reconnect with design and creativity. It reminded us of how much we love building with our hands and our minds. Something sparked.

A Problem Hidden in Plain Sight

Back in 2022, after moving into our current home, we built a wooden cabinet to create a cozy coffee corner. It became one of our favorite places in the house—clean lines, solid wood, full of warmth and character. But there was one thing that always felt out of place: the knock box.

We had bought a basic plastic knock box on Amazon for about £20. It worked, technically, but it didn’t belong. It looked and felt cheap next to our handmade setup. And that’s when we thought, “Why not design one that actually fits this space?”

Designing the Knock Box We Wanted to Use

We started sketching ideas and printing simple prototypes — ovals, hollow cylinders, minimalistic forms. We wanted to create something functional, of course, but also beautiful. A knock box that added personality to the coffee routine instead of taking away from it.

Could a 3D-printed knock box stand up to daily use? That was our first challenge. We tested. We knocked. We learned.

To make the knock box more durable, we tried different coatings and sealants to increase water resistance. After several iterations, we listed a few early designs on Etsy just to see if anyone else felt the same way we did.

Listening, Improving, and Growing

Slowly, a few orders came in. Not many at first, but enough to give us a sense that we weren’t alone. Other people were also looking for coffee accessories that felt more personal, more intentional.

Then came the feedback.

One customer mentioned that the wooden bar wasn’t strong enough. We took that seriously and started sourcing hardwoods like oak and iroko. Another asked for a non-slip base, so we redesigned the bottom with a recessed area and added a rubber pad. Each piece of feedback helped us refine the product. Every message was an opportunity to make it better.

And with that, our simple project grew into something we could be proud of.

The Birth of Knocdic

That’s how Knocdic came to life.

It didn’t begin with a business plan or a sales pitch. It began with a small frustration, a design challenge, and a desire to make something that felt right in our own home.

Today, Knocdic is more than just a coffee knock box. It’s a symbol of starting over, of rediscovering joy through creativity, of learning from every step and every mistake. It's a quiet celebration of thoughtful design and the small rituals that make daily life a little more special.
